My name is Bob Darnall, and I am the owner of Alpine Sprinklers. I started my business in Wenatchee, WA in 1983 after I sold the sprinkler business in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho that I established in 1975. In Wenatchee, I began as a one man operation, installing residential sprinkler systems with no equipment other than a pick and shovel. My number one priority was to design quality and professional sprinkler systems. The second priority was to do a neat, tidy installation. I would cut out strips of sod, dig narrow ditches with the pick, install the pipe and sprinkler heads, rake all the dirt back into the ditch with a plastic leaf rake, put the sod back in place and then tamp in back level with the existing lawn. The end result was that it was hard to tell that any damage was done to the yard. The customers were pleasantly surprised by the neatness of the installation and were equally happy about the even coverage, head to head overlap design of their system. As a result, new business came rapidly because of their referrals. By 1985 I began coming over to the Redmond area to install residential systems. This came about as a result of doing work up at the Lake Chelan area for Redmond customers that had their summer homes there. By this time I had purchased a pipe puller, which allowed me to install the pipe in the lawn areas much faster and with even less turf disturbance. When the neighbors in the neighborhoods in Redmond saw this, and how neat the installations were, I began to get a lot more business than I expected. By 1988, I moved to Issaquah full time because business was so plentiful. I continued working as a one man operation for several more years.
